The Arc of Fort Bend County supports special needs families at all stages of their lives. This month's parent support group welcomes Carey Handley, Special Needs Advisor for The Handley Law Office. Carey will share her family's advocacy journey in getting a new law passed that will benefit special needs families. HB 1188, legislatively known as The Caytlin Handley Act, was passed into law May 27, 2025. Named for their daughter, Caytlin, HB 1188 resulted in a big changed in the Texas Education Code. Learn how one child with disabilities, who was given up on by early educators, became an endearing presence at the Texas Capitol and how both sides of the aisle pulled together to create meaningful change, all in her honor.
